We certainly are not the pioneers of the Adirondack chair. Nor would we claim to build a better Adirondack chair then anyone else. Now, in saying that, we can say that we are the absolute BEST at building OUR own Crazy Heron Adirondack Chairs. Others may try but our customers will tell you that a Crazy Heron chair is strong, long lasting and a true enjoyment to own. We can assure you that you will receive compliment after compliment from your family and friends. Now, please don't get us wrong, it's not that we're stuck on ourselves, we say this because many of the orders we receive are from people who have seen our furniture at a "specific" place and are now ordering one for themselves.
What sets us apart from many is that we custom-build the furniture to YOUR ideas. The color, the artwork, the expressions and the designs. Anyone can go buy furniture and it's usually WYSIWYG. (what you see is what you get) At the Crazy Heron we say, WYWIWYG! (what you want is what you get)
We use premium semi-gloss (and gloss) exterior acrylic paint. It is a high quality paint that is noted for non-yellowing, fade and chalk resistant, mold and mildew resistant as well as resistant in peeling and blistering. We use acrylic paint because the elasticity of the paint allows it to contract and expand well with with weather changes. Enamel cures so hard that it doesn't give as much as acrylic and overtime will develop cracks. PLEASE understand that every step is a process, and the construction time we give, and QUALITY can NOT be rushed.
1.) We collect the information
from you as to what you're interested in. Whether it's one piece or a grouping.
Then we obtain the size and style information from you. When that is understood an artist will contact you as to your
choice of furniture color and what artwork you desire. Even if your not exactly sure,
that's where the artist excels with her ideas. By asking you questions about
the room and where the piece will go, she can assist you with ideas, color
schemes and accents.
2.) The
furniture is then planned and constructed from your request. If the pieces
will be used outside, then the furniture is constructed using pressure-treated
wood. Pieces assembled are Glued and Screwed for lasting durability. Once constructed, the items are then
sanded using three different grits.
3.) The item (or items) are then sprayed
with a wood primer in preparation for the base color.
4.) The color information is then collected and each individual piece is given
4 coats of weather grade paint.
5.) Then the item (or items)
will go to the project artist for your "hand-painted" artwork details.
6.) When the artist is finished, the item (or items) go back to the shop to be given 4 coats of a clear polyurethane. Depending on the piece of furniture and/or the customer's request, either Satin or High Gloss is used. We use Polycrylic® Protective Finish, which is a crystal clear, fast-drying protective topcoat for use over bare wood, oil- and water-based stains, paint and wallpaper. Polycrylic® resists damage from abrasion, scuffing, chipping, water, alcohol and other common household chemicals.
7.) After the clear coat dries
completely, the customer is contacted (via email) for shipping arrangements.
8.) The furniture is then
individually crated using a wooden cage. We first place bubble wrap over the artwork.
Then foam blocks are set between the wood crate and the furniture. After that, the complete item is wrapped
in cardboard with wooded strips securing the cardboard to the crate.
